Air Force retired, will be 11 a.m. Monday at National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Graveside military rites will be conducted. Services will be 11 a.m. today at Borman Funeral Home, Melrose Park, 111.

Sgt. Roth A recruitment rally for Crop Walk for Hunger will be 7 p.m. Aug. 23 at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 121 W. 12th Davenport.

The annual Quad-City walk to gain funds for hungry people locally and in other countries will be Oct. 22. The rally will introduce the regional directors. Representatives from participating churches and other organizations will receive free materials to distribute, tips on recruiting, and information about the 1993 route. Videos about hunger also may be reserved.

Local agencies that will be recipients this year are Christian Family Care Center's Rock Island Mission, Valley Shelter Homes, John Lewis Coffee ShopMiriam House and the Salvation Army community kitchen. He was a 25-year veteran of the Armed Forces. He enlisted in U.S. Army in 1939. After basic training, he Sgt. Roth Lutheran churches get $2,000 Each of the 18 Lutheran churches in Scott County has received $2,000 from the Aid Association for Lutherans to use for flood assistance, working directly with victims of flooding.

The assistance is in addition to $600,000 allocated earlier to supplement dollars raised locally in the Helping Hands program. William Mulder, Bettendorf, is agency coordinator of volunteers for the Scott County area. He said volunteers from the area Lutheran churches also have contributed more than 300 hours of work related to the flooding. Working on the front lines of the flood effort, volunteers were able to assess some of the direct needs where the $2,000 awards could be shared. Some of the local churches also used the awards for matching funds challenges, he said.

Lois Follett GENESEO, 111. Services for Lois B. Follett, 87, formerly of Kewanee, will be 11 a.m. Monday at Cavanagh and Schueneman Funeral Home, Kewanee. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Kewanee.

Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Monday. Mrs. Follett died Thursday at Hillcrest Home, Geneseo. She was a secretary for the American Red Cross, Kewanee, and had worked at S.E.

Robb Insurance Agency and ran the office at Washington Apartments, Kewanee. Lois Ouart married Harold Follett in 1926 in Kewanee. He died in 1965. Mrs. Follett was a member of First United Methodist Church, Kewanee, for more than 50 years, and sang in the chancel choir.

She also was a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 31. Memorials may be made to the church and American Red Cross. Survivors include grandchildren, Julie (Mrs. Eric) Sarff, Petersburg; Kathi (Mrs. Dan) Martins and Kel-ley Follett, both of Geneseo; and John Follett, Fort Collins, five great-grandchildren; and sisters, Muriel Godke and Helen Kirman, both of Kewanee.

She also was preceded in death by a son, Keith. June Stach GENESEO, 111. Services for June Stach, 63, will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at Myers Chapel of Stack-house-Moore Funeral Homes, Geneseo. Burial will be in Liberty Cemetery, Cornwall Township, Henry County.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday. Mrs. Stach died Thursday at Hammond-Henry Hospital, Geneseo. She was employed as assistant city clerk several years for the city of Geneseo.

She also had done bookkeeping and tax preparation in her home for many years and was an Amway and Raleigh Products distributor. June Woodward married Mil ford Stach in 1955 in Cambridge. He died in 1975. Mrs. Stach was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Geneseo, and Azure Circle.

She also was a past officer of Geneseo Civil Defense Organization and treasurer of her high school class alumni reunions. She enjoyed reading and playing cards. Memorials may be made to the church. Survivors include cousins, Eleanor Hoburg and Mae Nickerson, both of Atkinson; Merle (Mrs. Bob) Martin, Cambridge; and Phyllis (Mrs.

Keith) Wiese, Geneseo. Latter-day Saints offers religious tapes Rock Island Mary Otten ROCK ISLAND Mary K. Otten, 65, of 2825 27th died Friday at her home. Services will be 1 1 a.m. Monday at St.

Mary's Catholic Church, Rock Island. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation will be 2-4 and p.m. Sunday at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island, where a wake service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Daughters of Isabella will attend the wake.

Mrs. Otten was office manager at Rock Island Township Assessor's Office. Mary Kale married Edward Otten in 1947 in Rock Island. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Rock Island; and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Circle 532, Daughters of Isabella.

Burial will be in Rock Island Memorial Park. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Sunday at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island. She was employed several years at Showcase Cinemas, Milan, 111., and at Rock Island Arsenal during World War II. Margaret Hollingsead married Charles Hobart in 1944 in Kahoka, Mo.

He died in 1979. Mrs. Hobart was a member of Memorial Christian Church, Rock Island, and enjoyed watching baseball and basketball, especially the Chicago Bulls, and visiting with people. Memorials may be made to American Heart Association and a favorite charity. Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Burch Bradshaw, Phoenix; a son, Charles O.

She was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Courtney Jean Hobart-Martin, on Aug. 5, 1992. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo, 111. Visitation examines the history of religious freedom and its importance in contemporary society. "Religious Tolerance," which looks at the importance of religious freedoms and why they must be respected and preserved. They feature legal and other experts from Christian and non-Christian faith groups and universities around the United States. Two radio documentary tapes that deal with religious freedom and religious tolerance are being distributed by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Quad-Cities.

Dean Nichols, 89, of Clinton, Iowa, died Friday at Samaritan Hospital North, Clinton. Visitation 3-8 p.m. Monday at Schmitz, Clinton. Davenport Cody Myles posted to Bataan, the Philippines, and later to Corregidor, where he served under Gen. Douglas McAr-thur and Gen.

Jonathan Wain-wright. He was a survivor of Corregidor and Bataan death march and was a prisoner-of-war of the Japanese for four years. He worked in the coal mines in a northern Japanese prison camp. He married Virginia Lee Anderson, a WAC surgical technician, who was assigned to his case after release from prisoner-of-war camp. Sgt.

Roth then selected to career the military and served 25 years until his retirement in 1967. He became acquainted with Gov. Ronald Reagan while stationed in California. He received many citations, medals, commendations and service ribbons. His hobbies and interests included hunting and fishing.

He also was a Boy Scout Leader. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mary Alice Roth, Moline; sons, A.L. Northlake, and Craig Melrose Park; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Area deaths Carl Stross ANDREW, Iowa Services will be Carl J. Stross, of Evanston, 111., will be 10 a.m.

today at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Evanston. Burial will be 6 p.m. today at Andrew Cemetery, Andrew, Iowa. There is no local visitation.

Hay-lock-O'Hara Lahey Funeral Home, Maquoketa, is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Stross died Wednesday at Old Orchard Manor, Skokre, 111. He was an accountant for an oil company before retirement. He married Freida Cornelius in 1961.

He was a member of the church. Survivors include his wife, formerly of Andrew; a daughter, Carole Brobst, Des Plaines, sons, William Diamond Head, and Richard Lake Geneva, and nine grandchildren. Mr. Stross was preceded in death by his first, Elsie Hafenicht. Clyde Jones CLINTON, Iowa Services for Clyde F.

Jones, 74, will be 3 p.m. today at Cannon Funeral Home, Clinton. Visitation will be 1-3 p.m. today. Mr.

Jones died Thursday at University Hospitals, Iowa City. He was a retired construction worker and a member of the Laborers Local in Clinton. He retired in the mid-1980s. He married Minta Bailey in 1942 in Iowa. During World War II, he served in the Army.

Memorials may be made to the family. Survivors include daughters, Marlene (Mrs. Otto) Able, Oklahoma City; Darlene (Mrs. August) Hansmeyer, Norman, Patricia Grayson, Evansville, and Janice (Mrs. Rickey) Hull and Pam (Mrs.

Visitation RELIGION HAPPENINGS Christian group marks anniversary The Blackhawk Chapter of Christian Family Movement will hold a kick-off rally Sunday to open its 35th year in the Illinois Quad-City area. The rally will be 7 p.m. in Culemans Hall of Sacred Heart Catholic Parish, 1 624 1 4th Moline. There will be hors d'oevres and refreshments. All couples and single parents who are interested in strengthening family values are welcome.

They owned and operated a resort in Aitkin. He died in 1971. She was a former member of Concordia Lutheran Church, Geneseo, and enjoyed the river and fishing. She also enjoyed feeding ducks and squirrels. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society and The Kidney Foundation.

Bradford Ethridge EAST MOLINE Services for Bradford Ethridge, 82, of 2715 S. 13th will be 10 a.m. Monday at Schroder Mortuary, Silvis, 111. He is a 1972 graduate of DeWitt, Iowa, High School and former member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Davenport. He graduated from Iowa State University in 1978, and from the Association Free Lutheran Theological Seminary, Minneapolis, in 1989.

TluJ Rev. Francis Monscth officiated at the ordination. i University Mr. Schumacher Hospitals, Iowa City, after a brief illness. He was employed as a mechanical engineer 31 years at Rock Island Arsenal.

He formerly worked at Le-febure Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He married Shirley Withers in 1957 in Ames, Iowa. He was a graduate of the University of Iowa, Iowa City, and had attended Iowa State University, Ames. His hobbies included fishing and fixing things. Survivors include his wife; daughters, Kathy (Mrs.

Kelly) Rankin, Pleasant Valley; and Elizabeth Schmacher, a student at Washington University, St. Louis; sons, Anthony and Matthew, both of Iowa City; three grandchildren; his mother, Arlene Schumacher, Webster City, Iowa; and a brother, Stanley, of California. Debra Ray GENESEO, 111. Services for Debra Y. Ray, 45, will be 1 1 a.m.

Monday at Rux Funeral Home, Ke-wanee. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Kewance. Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Monday. Miss Ray died Friday at Hillcrest Home, Geneseo.
