It was sn sddress worthy of tbe city the Mayor represented, and he was interrupted by enthusiastic applause several times. The double tfUartctte wwz the Battle cry of Freedom Mr. Jones gmnr; the solo. Miss Susie Jones accompanied at the p.ano. COLOSSL HORTON responded to Mayor Bilis welcome address in beba'if of the regiment he once com-taaadtd.

The Colonel had a speech written, but he got away from his notes tn-tirr-'y- and a better descriptive speech thhn be msjj is rarely heard. He is a natural orator, is Colonel IIortoD. After arniLjj the warm thanks of the regiment to the Mayor lor the city's hospitalities, a repititioa of the ejecded when tbey were id camp in '81 and ajaia id 65, the Vo onel gave a tnriliiosr, sketca ot he hft of asexpenenced'oy ni' Tihers of the Beyond Iowa -hardships n'most every nature, aefp'-ratt; lighting witti a toe in front, and more desperate i-' to save an army in retreat from if1. life in camp and on the march iriiling recital it was. He then spoke of the regiment's commanders, Colonels Elliott, Hatch, Hepburn and Coon the tst teaching the regiment tbe discipline which rendered it so effective in the field, the second inspired his men with confidence in himself as a leader, bis reputation such becoming national; the third behaving gallantly at the fourth as brave and noble hearted an officer as the service knew, and a cool, fearless, determined ighter.

Elbot, Ifatch and Coon won their brigadier's stars through reputation won at tbe head of the Second Iowa Cavalry; and Coon was succeeded by Colonel Horton himself, who sot the audience in a roar by defyicg any of his comrades to deny "that when on the retreat I always lead them gallantly." He spoke of the pleasures of such a re-union as this, and he paid a glowing tribute to woman lor ber work in behalt of tbe sol. diers, describing ber sacrifices in the cause for which the army fought, in a very affecting manner. Tbe orchestra gave a pot pourn of national aire, which they played so beautifully as to winlong-continued applause. OOLOSKL. SASPOBU was introduced, and received a warm greeting indeed.

He was announced for an address on tbe history of tbe reg lment, but Colonel Horton bad "taken the wind out of his sails" he said, and then he proceeded to deliver a most interesting and enlivening patriotic address, iu which be mingled humor and sentiment in a very happy manner. He sketched tersely the patriotic history of the nation irom 1T70 until now, and made a reference to the crude ideas of tbe Iowa people about war when the first call was made by Lincoln, that set the audience in a roar. He then spoke of the Union army that put down tbe rebellion pronouncedSherman's march to tbe sea the grandest military achievement on record, of the great men produced by tbe war, and said there were men about him who acted in a manner heroic and grand as the most fame us of the wai's chieftains. He concluded with an apostrophe to the old Flag which stilled the audience completely, and so ended a ni' st happy address. Ti.0 club sang Keller's American hymn.
